The dairy industry in Oregon dates back to the mid 1800's, and ODI has been, and continues to be, an integral component to the success and vitality of one of Oregon's largest industries.
In 1929, the directors of the Oregon Buttermakers’ Association, which formed in1910decided to transfer their 46th annual meeting place to Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) to emphasize educational features. When ice cream makers joined the association in 1932, the name was changed to Oregon Butter and Ice Cream Makers’ Association. The name was changed in 1939 to Oregon Dairy Manufacturers’ Association with membership open to all person interested, directly or indirectly, in promoting and developing the dairy manufacturing industry in Oregon. In 1953 the association adopted the name Oregon Dairy Industries.
